Whether or not to link to an external site is a commercial decsion. When making such a decision the following factors must be satisfied as apporpriate:

Is it relevant to our customers? The following points are indicative of the types of consideration to be applied:-

  • content linked to must relate to content linked from
  • content linked to must be considered by customers to add value to that on the BA site
  • content on the remote site must be aligned with the strategic goals of the BA site
  • will customers understand the purpose of the remote site

It is usable. The following points are indicative of the types of consideration to be applied:-

  • can customers initially orientate themselves on the remote site
  • can customers navigate the remote site
  • is terminology on the remote site meaningful to customers
  • does functionality on the remote site work
  • does the remote site satisfy the purpose of linking (e.g. go here for currency information, but the euro isn’t listed)

It supports BA approved browsers

Content must be of sufficient quality – clearly and concisely convey the message

Content must be kept up to date

Where relevant there is a contact at the remote site

Where relevant it is operationally robust

Where relevant, the link goes to a non-English version

Note: consideration should be given as to the likliehood of competitor or other conflicting material appearing on the site.
